EVERY ENDING IS A NEW BEGINNING. We already miss Cora Fay, the Statesboro Regional Library’s assistant director who retired on September 18, 2009, and wish her great happiness as she begins her new adventures. Cora was exceedingly successful in bringing the community to the library through various programs such as One Book, One Community and Meet the Author. Although Cora has left us, we are beginning a new chapter in the very capable hands of Lois Roberts, library director, who has assumed her duties. Lois is also a pleasure to work with and works tirelessly to make sure the library’s story is told in all the media. You can find the library’s website at http://strl.info/ with a link to Facebook for more information. I hope you all will take a look at these sites as well as our own Friends of the Library website listed at the top of this newsletter. You can always find newsletters, important dates and other information there.
As always, feel free to share your ideas with me for making our organization better.

The Open Book: Library News
Dear FRIENDS and
If nothing ever changed,
there would be no butterflies. ~ Author Unknown
Change is a given
in our lives. With Cora Fay retiring and
my retirement postponed, I want to tell you how excited I am about doing the
very job I had when we moved to Statesboro in 1995. Goodness -- our library has changed since
then!
When I walk through the library’s automatic front doors, I realize that Friends even open doors for the community. Every time a stroller or wheelchair approaches, I am so proud of the support from our Friends. In 1995 you were a dream, not yet a reality. Thank you!
Everyone is looking forward to the Friends Fall Book Sale --
October 1-2-3. It will be fun (and hard
work!) to set up the room and open for business. We

Jim Rickerson updated the library website (www.strl.info) and we now have a presence on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Statesboro-GA/Statesboro-Regional-Library/138674325808 ).
There is no finer design than that of a public library -- public support for sharing books, knowledge, and access to information! Have a wonderful fall and LOVE your LIBRARY!

RETIREMENT RECEPTION
HELD FOR CORA FAY
On Thursday, September 10th at 4pm the staff of the Statesboro Regional Library in partnership with the Friends of the Library held a reception for Cora Fay who has served our local library during the past 8 years as assistant director. Cora devoted her whole professional career to community libraries in places such as Mobile, Alabama and Columbus, Georgia. The library presented her with a beautiful blanket while the Friends purchased 9 books for the library dedicated in her honor. Cora will continue to work as a volunteer on the upcoming Literary Festival that will be held next fall. She has sold her home and moved to Beaufort, South Carolina.
CHANGES IN EXECUTIVE BOARD
During the month of August, two board members resigned. Becki Edenfield, Corresponding Secretary left us to focus more on family activities. She has been replaced by Marcia Parkerson. Marcia and her husband Chris moved to Statesboro in May, 2008 from Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Marcia works with Radonna Sapp at Allstate Insurance Company. We are very happy she was able to step in and finish Becki’s term.
John Bressler, vice president and president-elect also resigned in August to accept more responsibilities with our local Ogeechee Area Hospice Organization. We have not yet filled his position. If you know someone with the time and inclination, feel free to make the recommendation to anyone on the board.
As always, feel free to attend our board meetings. We need and value your input into our organization.
YOUR FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY FUNDS AT WORK
Library funds have been drastically reduced by the state so during the last board meeting held on August 11th, the board approved the following donations to the library:
NICK DEBONIS PROGRAM HELD
Dr. Nick DeBonis presented our first Meet the Author program entitled: How to Build Your Business in Today’s Economy at 7pm on Tuesday, September 1st in the library community room. During his presentation Dr. DeBonis enlightened the audience about the effects of the economic crisis on local and national businesses. He made very specific recommendations about surviving and even growing in the midst of this challenging economic atmosphere. He cautioned about cutting customer prices because of the dissatisfaction they will voice once things improve and prices are raised. Dr. DeBonis recommended instead focusing more on meeting the individual needs of customers/clients so they feel they are being better served by the business.
